16. Alien Ruins, Modification Station & Depth Module Mk1
Explore the Aksum alien ruins, build the Modification Station, and craft the first Depth Module.
Preparation
Bring at least one Basic Battery and plenty of resources (Silver, Quartz, weak/strong acid, food, water). Craft a Flashlight or use the Propeller’s light.
Arriving at the Alien Ruins
Drive the Tadpole to the signal marker. Approach on the surface, then dive. At 100m depth, you’ll see the Research Outpost.
Build a simple base behind the outpost (1 corridor + 1 room) or find flatter terrain. The area is rich in resources — caves under the currents on both sides have Titanium, Copper, Lead deposits. Place Hydroelectric Turbines in the currents with Solar Panels for power. The outpost roof has fiber plants — use the Processor for water or Fabricator for salad.
Inside the Outpost
- Right of main entrance: download data, pick up Engine Efficiency Recipe (made at Modification Station for the Tadpole)
- Next room right: scan Modification Station
- Left wall: scan Power Storage
- Right corridor room: oxygen refill, Fabricator, respawn point
- Left room: scan Live Without Worries Poster on the wall, insert a Basic Battery in the opposite wall
- End of corridor, turn left: interact with NoA system
Getting the Black Box Signal
Interact with NoA to get the Black Box - Baoshi 2 signal marker. Nearby aggressive creatures — bring Decoy Flares, or scan Bullethead for Camouflage Mimic Module, or scan Electric Sea Squirts for Electric Discharge Module.
Follow the Wires
From the outpost entrance, follow the wires down the cliff:
- Lower platform: scan Improved Fins 1/3, Rebreather, Hydroelectric Turbine, Processor; box with Medkit and flares
- Bottom of wires: connects to Thermal Generator 2/3 (scanned 1/3 near Xi Dama — now usable)
Black Box - Baoshi 2 Area
Near the signal marker, a platform with lights (watch for sharks):
- Platform: scan Improved Fins 2/3, collect basic supplies
- Find Enameled Shell ore (three white rods) — collect for enamel
- Continue toward the signal — lower platform with light: scan Improved Fins 3/3 and Time Segment Display 1/2
- Nearby mountain has plenty of Celestite (collect at least 12)
- Park the Tadpole above 250m depth, swim into the cave near supplies
Inside the cave, go right-down toward the Baoshi 2 signal. Find red-lit wreckage:
- Scan Tadpole Cargo Chassis 1/3
- Pick up Tadpole Depth Module Mk1
- Scan Tadpole Module nearby
- Scan Improved Fins and Rebreather by Baoshi 2
Return to Base
Back at the Alien Ruins base, build the Modification Station. Recommended crafts:
- Depth Module Mk1 ×1
- Engine Efficiency ×2 (stackable)
- Craft Improved Fins
